2025 WCGC Program Schedule 
Programs are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month unless otherwise noted.

Thursday, April 24th

Kokedama Countryside Flower Shop - 42W075 Il route 38, Elburn

$30 per attendee

 Join your friends in the garden club to learn how to make the popular Japanese kokedama.  Learn the step-by-step process of wrapping coconut husk or moss around the root ball of a plant to create a kokdama. You will take home your self-contained plant that evening.  The beautiful green houses will be open for shopping with a coupon all attendees.  We will gather afterwards for a dinner in a local restaurant for an ala cart menu & libations.  Please RSVP. Prepayment required.

 Program begins at 4 p.m.

 

Saturday, May 3rd

Spring Clean-Up in the Butterfly Garden at Wayne School

 Come help prepare the butterfly garden for a new season!  Bring gloves and your favorite garden tools (trowel, pruners, etc.) and meet behind Wayne School.  Many hands make light work! Clean-up usually lasts 2 hours or so, and it’s a fun morning working with your fellow garden club members.

Thursday, May 15th

Spring Luncheon

Dunham Woods Riding Club - 33W333 Army Trail Rd., Wayne, IL

$65 per attendee

Come celebrate the club’s 70’s year with our luncheon program: Mushroom and Meadows, a journey from Wonderland to Potter’s Garden. Win fantastic raffle baskets, bid in an inspired silent auction, and lunch with fellow members and guests while we hear from the phenomenal gardener Beatrix Potter, portrayed by the award-winning actress from the Women of Letters, Debra Ann Miller.

 Program begins at 11 a.m.

 

Sunday, June 8

Annual Flag Day Parade

Come join your fellow garden club members as we march in the short but charming Flag Day Parade.  Bring a picnic and stay after the parade to spend time with friends and neighbors!

Meet at Old Village Hall at 3:30 p.m.

 

Thursday, June 19th

Red Bud Garden and Picnic

2930 N 4351st Road, Sheridan, Il. 60551

Journey to the country where inspiration is always in bloom.  Tour the gardens & shop their unique garden center.  Nancy, the owner will demonstrate unusual container plantings.  Stay for an optional casual picnic lunch arranged by your hostesses.  Carpooling opportunities will be available.  Remember your hat & sunscreen.  Please RSVP

Friday, July 18

Birdflower Farm Tour

46w819 Ic Trail Maple Park, IL. 60151

$20 per person + Preorder fresh cut bouquet $18

Walk Birdflower Farm on a guided tour.  Visit the kitchen garden, the orchard, and the native prairie.  Be completely surrounded by blooms as your stroll through the newly expanded wildflower and sunflower patches.  Our tour will end in fresh-cut flower fields.  The tour is about 1 hour, and you are welcome to revisit your favorite spots.  Preorder your fresh-cut bouquet for an additional $18, or visit her farm store.  Wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle and sunscreen/ bug spray.

Wednesday, August 20th

Ball Garden Tour and Horticultural Center

622 Town Road West Chicago, IL.

View over 9 acres of display bed of perennials, annuals, cut flowers and vegetables.  See the newest plants from the industry’s leading breeders and marketers.  An incredible tour of beauty and inspiration waits!

Thursday, September 18th

Eco Printing Demo 

Home of Anne Gardner            

It's the perfect time of year to use your colorful garden blooms and learn eco printing. Anne will demonstrate heat press eco-printing, and if you'd like, you can try it too. Light refreshments will be served. We will be outside; please bring a hat and sunscreen. Limited parking, carpooling is recommended.

Spooktacular Heebie-Jeebies and Creepy Crawly Creatures!

Little Home Church

Kim White, The Natural Naturalist will be returning to present but this time to give some of us the heebie-jeebies.  Are these creatures truly something to be frightened of?  Certainly not!  Here is your chance to meet some of her favorite creepy crawlies, from spiders, snakes and even bats!

Pumpkin Patch

Wayne Elementary School

Volunteer to decorate a pumpkin or two for one of the classrooms or help set up a fantastic pumpkin patch for the children of Wayne School.  On the day of the event, garden club members will read books to students in their classrooms.  Details to follow. Stay tuned!

Election of Officers

Little Home Church

Enjoy a light dinner/appetizers and libations with your fellow club members while helping to ring in the club’s 2026 slate of officers.

Thursday, December 4th

Traditional "Holly Hanging" Festivities and Potluck Lunch

Little Home Church

You are certain to leave Holly Hanging in the holiday spirit after spending the morning preparing the beautiful greenery that decorates the village.  Celebrate your hard work with the festive potluck that follows.
